Supporting the people that make NY

 ︎

Here’s the scoop:

Hi! We’re In Good Taste, a new fundraising initiative raising money to support critical grassroots organizations that help immigrant and BIPOC communities of NYC. We launched in 2020, and raised $24,000 for NICE - New Immigrant Community Empowerment, a Queens-based non-profit that works to improve the lives of vulnerable immigrant workers in NYC, and Good Call NYC, a 24/7 hotline that connects a person being arrested to a free attorney regardless of race, sex or income.

How it Works:

We invite our favorite artists, activists and chefs to curate their very own “Starter Packs” which included unique and covetable goods and experiences from their favorite small businesses. Participants donate for a chance to win a collection of these goods - and proceeds benefit charities that are doing important work. Until we launch our next round, feel free to donate to our cause using the button above.

Who Will Benefit?

CHARITY

New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE) is a nonprofit organization that has dedicated more than 20 years to improving the lives of vulnerable immigrant families in New York. NICE offers a comprehensive suite of services, community organizing, and leadership development programs. The current public health crisis has devastated the lives of many immigrant families and workers, destroying resources, public health support, and jobs. In the wake of the pandemic, NICE immediately pivoted to rapid response programming in the epicenter of the crisis—Queens, NY—to meet the vast needs of our community.

CHARITY

More than 500 people are arrested every day in NYC, many for minor offenses, and less than 1% of them have access to representation when they are being detained and interrogated. Being arrested is scary and isolating. When a person is arrested, their cell phone is taken away, making it difficult to reach their loved ones and nearly impossible to access a lawyer. Good Call (1-833-3-GOODCALL) is a 24/7 arrest support hotline that connects people to a free attorney with just one phone call. Good Call's mission is to provide all New Yorkers with their 6th Amendment rights, and their work includes outreach and engagement with system-impacted youth and young college students.
